At the age of 7, my mother woke me up at 3am and said, “Let’s get ready to get on the bus.” We lived in NYC, and she always taught me the importance of our collective voices. We joined others from the neighborhood on the ride from NYC to DC to march for civil rights. I grew a social conscience early.

Standing up for a cause has been my way of fighting injustice. Peaceful demonstrations educate the uninformed and get the attention of lawmakers. People who march for a heartfelt cause feel a sense of community with others driven to do the same. Grassroots movements can make a difference. Our freedom of speech is a powerful tool. However, silence is the voice of complicity.

Throughout my life I’ve proudly marched for women’s rights, civil rights, gender equality, and for the environment in the face of climate change. I’ve also documented the demonstrations by taking hundreds of photos of the passionate concerns and signs of expression of those ACTIVATED. I’ve been honored to promote justice for all as a part of the people’s collective voice in this fragile democracy. Thank you to all who have marched, chanted, and made a difference.
